Organised by Backspace
In ‘Spatial (Re)Awareness’, space itself becomes the subject of inquiry, intervention, and imagination. The exhibition takes the spatiality of the gallery as its starting point, yet moves beyond it. The participating artists are brought together for the way each, in their own distinct manner, questions, expands, or reimagines our experience of space.
Some do so quite literally, by drawing attention to the physical boundaries and walls of the artist-run space. Others engage space conceptually—proposing interventions on paper as mental or potential acts. Still others bring the outside in, or allow their work to exceed the confines of the exhibition space by making use of light or volume visible from the street.
What does it mean to read, construct, or temporarily claim space? How do context, perspective, and intervention shape our perception of it?
‘Spatial (Re)Awareness’ invites visitors to re-attune to space—both as something we inhabit, and as something that shapes us in return.
Participating artists are: Filip Cleynen, Ine Kools and Filip Collin
